We’re getting very excited that the evenings are starting to get a little lighter (and a little warmer), although we’d really like them to stay a little dryer!! Thank you to everyone for your patience over the last 6 weeks with rearranging classes around the lovely British winter weather!!
As always, it’s been a busy month at HKM – our new classes are up and running and we’ve loved meeting new people, new dogs and new guest trainers – and this month we’re going to be introducing even more!
Our newest class, Rally, has completely sold out for March, even with us adding a second group, so thank you to everyone that signed up! We love this class – Holly sees it as agility but with obedience moves, whereas I think it’s like dressage for dogs – you can tell what we both used to love doing with our horses, can’t you? We’ll be adding another course for April, so if you missed out this time, let us know and we can look at adding even more for the next one!
Our Community Coffee Mornings restarted in February and I think you all know by now this is my absolute favourite class of each month – they’re running on the third Thursday of every month so pop down if you can and be force fed cake! The weather was rubbish (shocking…) for this month, but we still managed to have a lot of fun and luckily we have enough space to move all the sniffy stuff indoors, so no one drowned!

Our new Scent Work course, taught by Lou from Surrey Scent Work finished last week and was completely sold out – the next course is starting on the 15th of March and has one space left for dogs with some experience. We’re talking to Lou about adding another beginners course, so if you missed out this time, please let us know and if we get enough interest, we’ll get it in the diary.
Sadly our Nicole Turner workshop had to be postponed as Nicole was super poorly, although it absolutely chucked it down on the day, so maybe that was for the best! We’ve arranged for Nicole to come back on Wednesday 18th of June and there are spaces still available – they’re up on the website or email us if you’re not sure which level is for you.

Speaking of guest trainers, the Kay Atwood training day will be available to book on the website this month using the same link – If you’d like to reserve a space or would like more information, email us at HKMDogsports@gmail.com. This will take place on Saturday 6th September from 10am to 4pm and will be looking at developing your dog’s cognitive skills. Kay is an AMAZING trainer and spaces are limited, so we strongly advise letting us know if you want a spot!
Also coming up is a new agility clear round fun competition on Saturday 8th of March. We’re running 2 x all sorts agility rounds (no seesaw or weaves) and 2 x all sorts jumping rounds (no weaves). Come and have a little bit of fun with your dog with a little bit less pressure than a competition environment – or just to laugh at me and Squidge pootling round and (hopefully not) pretending he’s never done agility before in his life…

Our Hoopers clear rounds are now twice a month on Sunday mornings – we’ve got a lovely regular crew, who all support and cheer each other on. Everyone who’s running sequences is welcome to come and try it out!

Whinge and Whine is running next Tuesday at 7:15pm – leave your dog at home and come and tell us all about what drives you nuts, what you’re struggling with or just scream into a cushion! Honestly, we’ve all been there and sometimes you just need to get it all off your chest! We’ll have hot drinks and snacks, so grab yourself a bottle, a gin in a tin or what tipple you fancy and pop down.
We are also opening this up to join remotely via Zoom so you can join in without having to drag yourself out in the cold or worry about dog/childcare! If you’d like to join remotely, book in as normal and email us at HKMDoglife@gmail.com to let us know and we’ll send the zoom link.)

Our puppy classes are now starting on Tuesday 11th March at 7pm with the lovely Nicky! She’s put together a brilliant course for puppies from 12 to 20 weeks, including all the skills your puppy needs to be happy and confident as well as looking at ways to prevent common puppy problems. Did we mention that this class will be INDOORS! Even if you don’t have a puppy currently, refer a friend and get 5% off your next course or workshop.

We’ve also been asked to run the Hoopers Have a Go and Demo at Dogs Day Out in May, which is really exciting! If you’ve not been before, it’s two days of dog filled activities (and SHOPPING) at an absolutely stunning venue near Alton on the 10th and 11th of May, so make sure you come and find us and say hello (let’s be honest, you’ll hear us before you see us….)! They’re also running a Talent Competition – submit your video entry in either the Novice Star, Intermediate Trickster or Total Show Off category and get the chance to win a weekend break for two (plus your dog) as well as a discounted entry on the day. All details can be found on their website: https://www.dogsdayworldham.com/
Carrie-Anne is back with her Wellness Workshops on the 1st of March at 12pm – we’re going to be running these on the first Saturday of every month until October. We love these workshops and we love Carrie-Anne too, so we’re really happy to have them back in the diary! We’re running them as two sets of four – each workshop is slightly different but they don’t need to be taken in any order so you can pick the dates you’d like to do – discounts are available if you book 2, 3 or all 4 at the same time:
Book 2 for 10% off – code WELLNESS2
Book 3 for 15% off – code WELLNESS3
Book 4 for 20% off – code WELLNESS4

All our normal weekly classes are still booking on the website – if you’ve missed your class and would still like a space, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do!

If you don’t already follow us on Facebook, have a look at our page for more news and to get involved in our weekly photo competition – we’re loving seeing your beautiful (and sometimes ridiculous) dogs and it’s getting harder and harder to pick a winner each week!

That’s it for this month! Next month we’re going to be announcing the dates and courses for after Easter and will hopefully have some super exciting (and currently top secret) announcements to make….
Take care
