So, it seems we have had another month of unpredictable weather, not being sure if it was too hot or too cold. It seems that Autumn is fast making its way towards us and we have been busy planning the Autumn timetable for all you lovely people to come and enjoy. A big shout out to Karen who has spectacularly managed the admin of sorting all of the weather changes, yet again! Here’s hoping we get an Indian Summer with no more weather disruption!
The pay as you go over the summer has been a huge hit and has allowed people the flexibility to come and go as their holidays allow it. We’re moving back to our normal 6 week blocks from the 9th of September – we have had many new members join over the last six weeks or so and it has been a pleasure for one/two or all three of us to have met some of you and hopefully we will see some of you on our upcoming courses/workshops!
We welcomed Pup Pup Playground to the HKM Sports field and Rik has done a fantastic job of bringing something different to locals to enjoy with your dogs and family. Text RIK ((WhatsApp +44 7903 405779) to book. It has been a firm favourite and is very busy, so make sure you book soon to save your slot.
We also have to hand it to Miche and Joe who have done a huge makeover of The Shed grounds and it is looking remarkably smart these days. Joe came on board to give Miche a helping hand and he has been an absolute super star. They put a huge amount of work into it all and some of it was back breaking work, so well done to both of them. Carole Cannon you should be very proud of your son!
The Shed is currently having a large overhaul of it’s website (not HKM DOGS) and Ash and his team have been working hard to get that up and running so that you can all see the services that it provides Just a mention that we have the lovely Fiona for dog grooms, Leah for physio (who we cannot recommend enough) and of course the Paw Wash which we see is having some lovely clients and photoshoots up there. Yet again the Feral Flyer went out to compete down in Cowgate, Kent. It was another rubbish day for weather, but they did extremely well with 92% clean legs and came back with third place rosettes. It was an exceptionally strong division and second place only had one more clean run than third place. It was all very close, so an absolutely huge well done to a team that is really dedicated and is starting to come together beautifully. They have their last competition of the season next Saturday at Ansty Park in Alton – if anyone would like to come down and support them, let us know and we’ll send directions!
We also got to chat to the absolutely awesome Carrie-Anne Selwyn on her Canine Hoopers World podcast this month. You can listen to our wafflings on all things HKM and a LOT about flyball here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1bzZigASERCcFJGZJvqGE0?si=D5u7vKu7TU6hTVj9cYmLeQ
We say a sad goodbye to Lesley, who has been teaching our Monday nights, she has selfishly decided to retire (HOW DARE SHE) no, it is very well deserved, but she will be very much missed and we send her best wishes and happy laziness ;-). This means that Karen will be taking over the Monday night classes and Holly will be introducing an intermediate group class on Wednesday evenings. If there is enough interest, then we will also look at putting in two classes on this day.
September 21st will be an exciting day where we welcome an Open Day to the Shed. We are very much looking forward to this and we have the following that will be on offer. Please do come along and show your support, share the information, and if you are free that day then any volunteering would be MOST appreciated. We are very excited about this and it should be a really lovely day for you, family and dogs, so please come along and say hi.

We’re also starting a Puppy Life Skills and Sports Foundation group class – this will focus on nurturing a happy, confident, optimistic puppy and over the 6 weeks we’ll be looking at crate training, body handling, co-operative care skills, body awareness, calmness and focus and the beginnings of recall, play and all the other skills they’ll need when they’re old enough to join our sports classes! We’re so excited about this and we can’t wait to meet our future superstars!
